Welcome to our highly-anticipated “Pop Star Tattoo Face-off,” a brand-new series in which we pit some of the most tatted-up pop stars against one another to find out once and for all whose tats are sweet and whose are candidates for a cover-up. Young or old, popular or not, no pop star is free from criticism when it comes to their tattoo collection. So, first up: Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato – two queens of pop who both seem dead-set on covering their bodies with tattoos before they can legally drink. Both singers are 20 years old, both have feather tattoos in the exact same spot on their right sides, and both got them inked in 2011. So, the question of the day is…who wears the feminine, feathery tat best? Let us know who you think the winner of the Pop Star Tattoo Face-off should be in the comment section below. Remember, this is a no-holds-barred tattoo competition, so give us everything you’ve got!
Miley Cyrus’ Dreamcatcher Side Tattoo
Miley Cyrus was the first of the two to get a huge feather tattoo inked on her side, and hers came in February 2011, in the form of a traditional Native American dreamcatcher tat. Miley Cyrus’ ribcage tattoo is inked in black and white, with the only pop of color coming from the turquoise beads attached to the feathers. The dreamcatcher is inked on Miley’s right ribcage and features four feathers, each representing one of her siblings – Brandi, Trace, Braison and Noah. Dreamcatchers originated in the Sioux Nation, where they were hung above the beds of children to protect them from bad dreams. We think Miley should get some bonus points for having such a large tribute to her family inked on her ribcage.
**Did you know that Miley Cyrus is actually part Cherokee? Her heritage plays a big role in her tattoo selection, and obviously influenced her decision to get the dreamcatcher tat on her side.
Demi Lovato’s “You Make Me Beautiful” Feather Tat
Demi Lovato loves her some inspirational tattoos, of which she has many scattered across her body, including the large feathered tattoo she has on her right ribcage. Although Demi first got the words “you make me beautiful” inked on her side in 2010, it wasn’t until September 2011 that she followed Miley Cyrus’ lead and added the two criss-crossed feathers to the design. Like Miley’s tat, Demi Lovato’s feather tattoo has a deeply personal meaning – she got it inked on her side shortly before she began treatment at a rehab facility for serious issues, including bulimia and cutting. The words “you make me beautiful” were taken from one of Demi’s favorite songs – “Beautiful” by Bethony Dillon.
**Did you know that Demi Lovato’s ribcage tat isn’t her only feather tattoo? Her first was actually inked behind her ear in 2010 on a Warped Tour tour bus. That one must have been practice.
