While the rest of us were throwing back champagne and sharing midnight kisses, Ke$ha rang in the New Year in her own way – by getting a new foot tattoo. Apparently, the pop star wanted to put her best foot forward in 2014, so she had a tattoo artist (we think) ink a small black smiley face on the top of her right foot. Ke$ha already has a number of other small and seemingly random tattoos inked on her body, including the infamous “suck it” tat on the inside of her lip, and her new smiley face tattoo joins several other other symbol tats the singer has, like the anchor, cross, and skull and crossbones tattoos on her wrist, and the heart outline on her foot.
Ke$ha’s latest in a long line of pretty terrible tattoos is a rudimentary image of a smiley face with two eyes and a mouth inked in black on the top of her right foot, just below her ankle. Judging by the picture Ke$ha proudly posted on Instagram during the tattoo session, it looks like the smiley face tat was done with a pretty simple needle tool, not an actual tattoo gun. Since the 26-year-old has a history of letting random people permanently tattoo her (her cross and “YEAH!” tats were inked by friends and her anchor tattoo was done by some random guy in exchange for five dollars when she snuck into Cuba at the age of 18), we’re guessing that she may have commissioned another friend for this New Year’s ink too.
Although Ke$ha’s tattoos seem pretty random and meaningless, most of them hold some significance for her. For example, the pop star’s dollar sign tattoo on her hand – which she admits is a “bad tattoo” – explains the reasoning behind the singer’s stylized stage name, which features the S as a dollar sign. According to Ke$ha, “it came about because I was broke, and I was just making a joke out of it. Instead of being like, mad like, ‘I’m so broke,’ I was just like, ‘WHATEVER! Out of money…whatever. I don’t need money.’ So, out of money, put it on my hand, put it in my name, and it was just kind of a joke, and it stuck.” We were hoping Ke$ha’s tattoo of the smiley face was also just a joke. Unfortunately, we think it’s the real deal.
