Almost immediately after performing as one of Coachella’s opening acts this past weekend, Ellie Goulding went out and got herself a brand-new tattoo, done by one of her favorite tattoo artists – Dr. Woo of West Hollywood’s infamous Shamrock Social Club. Ellie Goulding’s new tattoo is inked on her left ribcage, just below her armpit, and was done on Monday, April 18, “based off inspiration she brought in” to the tattoo shop, according to Dr. Woo himself. The tattoo artist posted a photo of Ellie’s new ink on Instagram, showing a close-up of the intricate diamond-shaped dot and line piece.
This latest tat is located in almost the exact same spot as the lotus flower tattoo Ellie Goulding had inked on her right ribcage at the same Hollywood tattoo shop before performing at Coachella in 2014, a beautiful design the pop star put on partial display at this year’s Coachella performance in her white crop top. While Ellie’s lotus flower tattoo on her ribcage was done by Shamrock Social Club’s owner Mark Mahoney, Dr. Woo is responsible for the red Tibetan mantra “Om mani padme hum” tattoo the singer had inked on her wrist in 2013.
We love how, like beautiful lotus flower tattoo on her side, Ellie’s new diamond ink on her ribcage is relatively large and in a pretty visible spot on her body, but is done with such fine lines and close attention to detail that it still comes off as feminine and delicate, much like the singer herself. We also love that Ellie Goulding seems to be making it a tradition to get inked as a tribute to her Coachella performances each year, because this hopefully means plenty more Ellie Goulding tattoos in the future!
Fun fact: Ellie Goulding’s new ribcage tattoo was inked just hours before the singer hopped on a plane and headed off to perform at the Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas. Apparently when you’re a tattoo-loving celebrity and you’re in town, no matter how quick the trip is, you always make sure to pop in and see Dr. Woo. If you’re jonesing for some Ellie Goulding-inspired ink right this moment though, Dr. Woo may not be your guy. According to reports, his wait list is six months long. Coachella 2017, anyone?
