On June 4, 2017, after delivering a moving performance at a benefit concert for the victims of the tragic bombing at her show in Manchester, England the previous month, Ariana Grande got inked backstage with a tattoo of a worker bee, a symbol of the industrious city and a tribute to the families affected by the attack.
In August 2016, Ariana Grande and rumored beau Mac Miller hit up Hollywood tattoo artist Dr. Woo for some fresh ink, including a simple capital letter “A” inked in a black typewriter font on Ariana’s left thumb. According to the singer, her “A” tattoo is a tribute to herself and her best gal pal, Alexa Luria.
During the same tattoo session that landed Ariana her letter “A” thumb tattoo, the singer got a tattoo of the symbol for Venus inked on her right-hand middle finger. The delicate Venus tattoo denotes a female symbol historically associated with the Roman goddess Venus and the Greek goddess Aphrodite, both of whom represent love, beauty, sex and fertility.
In January 2016, Ariana Grande revealed a new tattoo reading “Baby Doll” in capital letters on the outside of her right-hand middle finger. Apparently, Ariana’s “Baby Doll” tattoo was inspired by the pop star’s maternal grandmother, Nonna, with whom she is very close, and who refers to Ariana by that childhood nickname.
Ariana joked about getting a “hi” tattoo on her toe with boyfriend Ricky Alvarez in a Snapchat video posted in June 2015, but it wasn’t until Ariana attended the MTV American Music Awards in September 2015, that we spotted the tiny, discreet “hi” tattoo inked in black on the second toe of her left foot.
Ariana Grande must have really loved her first-ever tattoo, a tiny heart outline located on her toe, because the pop star got a nearly identical heart tattoo (albeit slightly larger) inked on the ring finger of her right hand in May 2015, which she debuted during a show in Paris on her Honeymoon Tour.
During a meet and greet for her Honeymoon Tour in April 2015, eagle-eyed fans spotted two new Ariana Grande finger tattoos. The first is a Hebrew phrase inked in black on her right-hand ring finger, a symbol of her Kabbalah faith, and the other is the word “honeymoon” inked in a black script font on her right-hand middle finger – a clear tribute to her very first headlining tour!
On April 14, 2015, Ariana Grande took to Instagram to show off a brand-new tattoo of a small crescent moon outline inked on the side of her neck, just below her left ear. Ariana’s crescent moon tattoo was inked during the singer’s Honeymoon Tour, which is in support of her second studio album, My Everything, and matches the same crescent moon tattoo inked on the neck of her BFF and back-up dancer, Brian Nicholson.
Ariana Grande got tattoo number three during a “tattoo party” she threw at her California home, where lots of her friends got their first-ever tats and Ariana too, went under the needle. Ariana’s third tattoo was inked by artist Romeo Lacoste on March 23, 2014, and features the word “bellissima” on her side. According to Ariana, the “bellissima” tattoo represents nickname her grandfather (who she says is her favorite person in the world) has called the singer her entire life, and she chose to commemorate that sweet memory in a new tattoo.
On March 13, 2014, Ariana Grande showed off tattoo number two – a small phrase inked in black on the back of her neck that reads “mille tendresse,” a French term of endearment that translates to “a thousand tendernesses.” Ariana first tweeted the French phrase back in January 2012, and it comes from the singer’s “all time favorite movie,” Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Ariana’s “mille tendresse” tattoo was inked by celebrity tattoo artist Romeo Lacoste of Art & Soul Tattoo in L.A.
Ariana Grande got her first-ever tattoo in April 2012 – a tiny black heart outline on her toe – and even though the ink is small, it holds a big meaning for the singer. Ariana’s heart tattoo was probably partially inspired by her hit track “Tattooed Heart,” but the pop star accompanied the YouTube video of her tattoo session with a caption saying that she got the tat because she wanted to do something permanent to remember that she is young, having fun and surrounded by love. How sweet!
