Despite having been together for more than 10 years, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt can’t seem to escape those nasty divorce rumors, which have the couple supposedly heading for a separation by the end of this year. The proud parents of six may have put an end to those rumors for good though, with matching Thai tattoos that reportedly represent the struggles Angelina and Brad have faced with Angie’s health recently. Angelina Jolie found out a few years ago that she has genes that predispose her to cancer, and in 2013, the actress bravely revealed that she had undergone a preventative double mastectomy. With these new Thai tattoos though, which one source says are “Buddhist blessings for peace, love and a prosperous life,” Angie and Brad hope that they will be protected from future health scares.
While in Cambodia directing her film First They Killed My Father, Angelina Jolie commissioned Thai tattoo artist Ajarn Noo Kanpai to ink a huge Thai tattoo on her back featuring “grids with pyramids at the top” that are supposed to “help to give the wearer protection and health,” an insider said. “Angelina is a very spiritual person and has long believed her tattoos are more than just designs on her body – that they actually hold some meaning, power and influence over her.” This isn’t the first time Angelina Jolie has put herself at the mercy of Kanpai; the artist gave her tattoos two times before, in 2003 and 2004. Perhaps the Angelina Jolie tattoo Kanpai is most famous for is the large Bengal tiger tat inked on her lower back, which was done in the traditional Cambodian style of hand-poking the tattoo design with bamboo tubes and sterilized needles.
When it came time for Brad Pitt to go under the needle for his own spiritual Thai tattoo, the 52-year-old actor, who is no stranger to tattoos himself, opted for a more discreet, but still similar, piece featuring a Thai Buddhist symbol on his ribcage, just below another tat that says, “We live, we die, we know not why, but I’ll be with you,” supposedly done in Angelina’s handwriting. The fact that Ajarn Noo Kanpai agreed to do matching tattoos for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt speaks volumes about the respect he holds for the couple, as he is quoted as saying, “I only work with people who are clean and moral. My tattoos have a great deal of spiritual meaning and significance, so I hope they have blessed [Angelina].”
The full tattoo actually says “We live, we die, we know not why, But I’ll be with you til the deal goes down.” Bob Dylan’s song “When the Deal Goes Down” has the lyric “We live, we die, we know not why, But I’ll be with you when the deal goes down” so she either misheard the lyric or changed it for her own reasons.
